Using Linear Switches/Dimmers and an Aeon Labs Minimote, you can create virtual, traveler-wire free, 3-way switch setups.

    • 3-way setup = 1x WT00Z
    • 4-way setup = 2x WT00Z
    • etc...
  3. An Aeon Labs DSA03202 v1 - Z-Wave Minimote

    4. Press the "Join" button on your Minimote.
  4. Associate The Linear WD500Z-1 Z-Wave Wall Dimmer or Linear WS15Z-1 Z-Wave Wall Switch to the Linear WT00Z-1 Z-Wave 3-Way Wall Switches
    1. Clicked "Associate" button on Minimote
    2. Double clicked the up or down paddle on your main (WD500Z or WS15Z) switch
    3. Double clicked the up or down paddle on your aux switches (WT00Z)
    4. Repeat for each WT00Z

This video shows the process, but not with a different controller than the Wink Hub. It is close enough that you will understand what is happening.

Alternate Setup for Non Linear Branded Dimmer Switches

The above instructions work great if all of your dimmers and 3 way switches are all linear/gocontrol/2gig branded. However, I was unable to get my Fibaro Dimmer 2 to associate with my WT00Z5-1 switches using the association function of the Minimote after adding the devices using the Wink Hub.

  1. Include the Minimote in the Wink Z Wave network as a secondary controller.
    1. Put the Wink Hub in Inclusion Mode.
    2. Press the Learn button on the Minimote. The Minimote will show up as an Unknown Device under the Wink Hub.
  2. Add The Dimmer Switch to the Z Wave network using the Minimote.
    1. Press the + Add Device button on the Minimote.
    2. Activate the Inclusion mode on your dimmer (Press the B button 3 times on the Fibaro Dimmer 2). As the Minimote is secondary controller, it will pass along the Z Wave pairing to the Wink Hub and your dimmer should show up under Lights + Power in the Wink App. This should work with whatever dimmer/switch you are using as long as it is supported by Wink.
  3. Add your WT00Z5-1 Switches to the Z Wave network using the Minimote.
    1. Press the + Add Device button on the Minimote.
    2. Activate the Inclusion mode by pressing any button on your WT00Z5-1. Again, the Minimote is secondary controller, it will pass along the Z Wave pairing to the Wink Hub, and the WT00Z5-1 will show up as an Unknown Device in Wink under the Hub.
  4. Associate your WT00Z5-1 Switches to your Dimmer using the Associate Function of the WT00Z5-1 itself.
    1. Quadruple click the rocker on the WT00Z5-1, the LED will flash indicating the switch is in Association Mode.
    2. Activate the Exclusion Mode on your dimmer (Press the B button 3 times on the Fibaro Dimmer 2). The LED will stop flashing on the WT00Z5-1 to indicate it is now associated with the dimmer.
    3. Repeat the process with any other WT00Z5-1 Switches you would like to use with your Dimmer.
  5. As an optional step, you can associate each WT00Z5-1 with each other so that the LED indicator lights on each will match.
    1. Enter Association mode on one WT00Z5-1 by Quadruple Clicking the rocker.
    2. Entering Exclusion Mode on the other WT00Z5-1 by Double Clicking the rocker.

You can now optionally Exclude the Minimote from the Wink by putting the Hub into Exclusion Mode and Pressing the Minimote Learn Button. I don't know why adding the Switches/Dimmer using the Wink Hub and Associations using the Minimote fails with this combination, but at least I was able to get it to work by adding the Switches and Dimmer via the Minimote and using the Associate Function of the WT00Z5-1. This may also work with any other controller that can function as a secondary controller and add Z Wave devices to your network.

Notes

I have done this many times. For the most part, everything goes well and the aux switches will instantly turn on the master switch.
However, on occasion, the pairing just won't happen right and the aux switch, when pressed with be followed by a long delay, sometimes as long as 15 seconds, before the master is controlled.
In these situations, I have found the removing the master and aux switches from the hub, added them back, and associating them with the minimote will often solve the problem.
